AberPride is the university's LGBTQ+ Society. We are here to provide you with a safe space in which you can identify as whomever you feel comfortable, no matter where on the spectrum you fit.
AberPride is the official LGBTQ+ Society of Aberystwyth University. We aim to support those who define as: lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex, asexual, aromantic, non-heterosexual, non-cis-gendered, curious, questioning and heterosexual allies. LGBTQ+ does not exclude any single person, acting as an inclusive term of all members. We run a range of exciting frequent events to bring everyone together, in doing this we hope to offer something to suit everyone’s tastes, plus some educational campaigns.
We also offer support to our members, whether it be listening to their problems and offering advice on various LGBT+ issues, or aiding them to get in contact with alternative charities or organisations. Although we offer some basic support, the main role when it comes to the welfare provision is signposting, so if we can’t help we’re likely to know someone who can. We also work closely with the Student Support Services in the Student’s Union including the Welfare Officer and the LGBT+ Officer both of which are voted in by students and are there to help.
There is no membership fee to join AberPride, and we are open to anyone and everyone. If you ever feel uncomfortable or unsafe whilst you're a member of AberPride, please don't hesitate to talk to one of the committee members.
Socials
We will have two different socials, a sober social and a drinking social.
> Drinking Social starting in SU bar – 7:00pm Fridays. An excellent opportunity to get to meet new people, socials also give you the chance to get to know the town’s many pubs and have an incredible night out. There will also be some themed and fancy dress socials during the year - all the need to know details of our socials will be posted on the social media and discord and sent to you via email, but if you have any questions just ask.
> Sober Social in the picturehouse – 2pm-5pm Saturdays. If you like the idea of a quieter, more relaxing social, come join us for our Sunday sober social. Often this is going for coffee together, or getting lunch, but we also watch films and do other activities. As always info will be available on the Discord.
If you have any specific questions about socials, feel free to email the society email (aberpridesoc@aber.ac.uk) or send us a message on any of our social media (or ask in the Discord)
How to Get Involved
As a friendly and inclusive society, AberPride always welcomes the involvement of our members in whatever we do. If you have any ideas about any campaigns you think we should be running or just where you would like to go for a social we would love to hear from you. You can do this through the society email, the facebook page, discord server or face to face at a social.
