The recent Education Workforce Council decision to remove accreditation for the Aberystwyth University PGCE education programme has been met with disappointment from students, staff, and the University community. Our thoughts are with all students affected by this change, and we understand the potential impacts this may have, including concerns about future academic plans and housing arrangements. For those affected, we recommend:
- Considering alternative options for pursuing a PGCE and reaching out to other universities for guidance (we’ve confirmed that other providers in Wales have spaces for 2024 start). If you speak to your personal tutor then they can help you to explore your options.
- We have worked with the University to ensure that students who have signed contracts to live in university-owned accommodation next year have the option to be released from the contract. Any impacted students can email accommodation@aber.ac.uk to action this.
- Students with private accommodation contracts are encouraged to contact their Landlord in the first instance and then can contact our Advice Service (union.advice@aber.ac.uk) for assistance in exploring available options if the Landlord is unwilling to release you from contract.
